Not Just a Mom: Internet Made Me Buy It

Hello there everyone and happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice weekend. Our kiddos had parent teacher conferences last week so they've been out of school for 4 days. I LOVED having this extra time with both of them at home. Now that they are both in school 5 days a week I feel like I hardly see them. An added bonus is that they were both very ready to go back to school and see their friends again today. 😃

Today the Not Just a Mom group is linking up to share "Internet Made Me Buy It." I am almost embarrassed to admit I feel like this is 85% of what I buy. This could be the world's longest post, but I'm trying to keep it to 8 or so items-- and a random hodgepodge at that!

I am no stranger to an impulse buy and these dang influencers/bloggers get me way too often! That being said, every once in a while I feel like I totally got swindled (anyone else?) so not only am I sharing my impulse buys... but I'm ranking them. A 5/5 means "great purchase, very happy I bought it, would totally buy it again". A 1/5 means "I can't believe I fell for that". 🙈 This could be fun, right? Let's have a look:

Patagonia Vest/Gingham Shirt-- Do any of you know who Kate from Lonestar Southern is? Well, back before influencers were a thing on Instagram, Kate had a blog and was all over Pinterest... and I think I pinned and tried to recreate about half of her outfits.

Look familiar? Brown vest: check. Gingham shirt: check. I am giving this one a 5/5 because I bought these things years ago and still wear them all the dang time. Gotta love the classics, they never go out of style.

Free People Dupe Sweater-- Another 5/5! This looks just like a super popular Free People sweater from a few years back, but significantly cheaper. An influencer I used to follow who kinda stepped back from influencing shared this a few years back and I still love it.

T-Shirt Dress-- I have Jen from Show Me and Sweet Tea to thank for this one! I saw it on her blog, it was adorable on her, and I had to have it! I'm giving this a 5/5 because this dress has garnered many compliments.

Trace Mineral Drops- This was a relatively recent purchase that I saw on TikTok after going on an internet deep dive about drinking water (feel free to judge me--- I know how lame that sounds 😆). Long story short, most Americans drink filtered water, which filters out the toxins that may be in our water. Sounds great, right? Except filters also filter out some beneficial minerals. That's where these drops come in. By adding a few of these drops to your water, you are adding helpful minerals back in. All that to say.... about a week ago (while on another water deep dive 😂) I realized that putting a lemon in your water has the same effect. LOL I am such a sucker. That being said, I don't always have fresh lemons on hand and I do have these drops... so, I'm still ranking it a 2/5.

Projector and Screen-- A few years back, Shay from Mix and Match Mama influenced me to buy this for Devin for Christmas. It is super easy to set up, our only problem is that it's hard to see during the daytime. My dreams of outside movies as a family during the summer completely went out the window. That being said, Devin and I have watched many a football game outside by the fire pit while drinking a beer or two. I'm ranking it a 4/5 because I wish it was easier to see during the day.

Pineapple Corer-- Tanya from The Other Side of the Road influenced me to buy this years ago and it is still one of my favorite purchases of all time! 5/5 because I still use it several times a week and even bought some for friends/family for Christmas last year.

Diffuser-- Remember when essential oil diffusers were all the rage? It felt like everyone and their mother had one? Well, so did I... and now, it's a dust collector. I feel like I go through phases with this. Either I'm using it all the time, or I have completely forgotten about it and it just sits on my nightstand or elsewhere around the house (we have a few). I really do like them, maybe I need to get back in the habit of using them? I give it a 3/5 because it's so hit or miss.

Thank you all for reading along with Adrienne, Dara, Jen, Joanne, Sarah and I for Not Just a Mom!

  1. Fun items! I love the patagonia vest look. Projectors only work in the dark for sure - late summer nights! lol.

  2. I probably buy more than I want to admit based on what I've seen online.

  3. I bought that pineapple corer for a few friends and family members too. I didn't think to rank my purchases but did mention that I have been influenced to buy things I either didn't use or just plain old didn't like.

  5. I am way too easily influenced by the internet! Thanks so much for the mention. I like how you ranked the items. I have definitely been disappointed by some of the beauty products I have been influenced to buy.
