Current Obsessions: My Kindle Fire

Good Morning! I hope you are all having a great week so far :) This week I wanted to talk to you about one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE things-- especially when it comes to travel. I bought my Kindle Fire 7 last year on Prime Day for like $30 (if I remember correctly) and it has made my life significantly easier!

Here I have it with me on our flight to Turks and Caicos.

Fall Outfits

Hi There! This past weekend we visited my parents in Blowing Rock, NC and got a little taste of some crisp fall weather. It had me all excited for the temperatures to cool down and to start wearing some fall outfits. I put together a list of some pieces I love and plan on buying this upcoming fall. J. Crew Factory is one of my all time favorite stores and is where I usually get all of my fall/winter pieces. They have a promo code FALLCLOTHES right now for an extra 20% off if you spend $100+ and you can also get a 15% discount for students and teachers (amen!). In order to get the teacher discount online, you just register your school e-mail and have to verify it (not sure if it is the same for students?).

Anyway, here are the pieces I am excited about for fall:

Easter Sunday at the Vatican

Ah, Easter Sunday at the Vatican. A truly once in a lifetime experience. Everything we read about Easter Mass at the Vatican talked about the importance of getting tickets and getting there hours ahead of Mass, but we didn't follow those suggestions and instead did our own thing-- I am so happy we did!
Can you see the Pope??

Current Obsessions: Tanning Towels

Good Morning! Today I am writing about something I wish I had known about back in my high school/college days of visiting tanning beds. Back then I was like every other girl at school who wanted to be tan in her Homecoming/Prom dress or tan for Spring Break or tan just because I felt like it. I'm embarrassed to admit I used to tan in tanning beds ALL THE TIME. I remember my mom telling me "Lauren, you're killing yourself every time you go" but being an arrogant teenager, I thought "Oh that won't happen to me." Ugh, what an idiot.

Fast forward 10 years and I had my annual visit to the dermatologist to get my skin checked. One of the many moles I had removed came back as "severely abnormal" and I had to go back again to have more of it removed. This dermatologist FINALLY put the fear of God into me and I realized, as my mom had been telling me all those years, I was potentially going to give myself skin cancer and the worst could happen.

So I finally started looking into other options to get a healthy sunkissed glow and after many trials and MANY errors (read: many days of being orange and hiding out at home until it went away), I have finally found my top 3 options that I think really work well.

Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale

Good Morning! Today is August 15th which means that the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale (APS) will be ANY DAY NOW! This is like Christmas to me and this is usually the time of year that I buy most of my Lilly clothes. I don't know about you but I just love the bright colors and effortlessly preppy style of Lilly Pulitzer. Her clothes immediately boost my mood.

This dress I wore in Turks and Caicos? Bought it during the sale HEAVILY discounted.

Hilton Head Island Family Reunion

Good Morning! Happy Monday :) Tomorrow is the big day-- back to school for teachers. We had an incredible summer and I loved all of the time I was able to spend with Lily Grace. This past week was our family reunion at the beach and it was a BLAST. Here are a few pictures from our trip:

Current Obsessions: Cute Cheap Pajamas :)

Good Morning! I am linking up today for Friday Favorites and wanted to write about one of my new current obsessions: my cute pajamas. These suckers were only $20 and made me feel a little bit cuter when crawling into bed at night (hey-- it can never hurt to feel a little more confident in yourself, right??)

This all begins with a somewhat embarrassing story...

A couple months back I had some girlfriends over on a whim for some wine and girl chat. One of the girls that had come over was wearing a super cute dress but as the night wore on and we drank more wine, she wanted something cozier to change into.  I told her I would run and grab her some pajama pants and a shirt to change into real quick. I headed into my closet and realized "Holy s%*!, all of these pajama pants and t-shirts I have are like 10 years old, raggedy, and GROSS". I grabbed her a pair of Devin's cozy pajama pants and t-shirt instead and made a mental note to stop wearing those gross old things to bed STAT.

I started thinking about this and realized I buy myself cute clothes all the time, why in the heck am I still sleeping in the same few t-shirts from college that have 2+ holes in them?? I mean, yes, the shirts are super soft and cozy now because of how worn they are... but still, it's time for them to retire.

I was perusing a few different websites for some cute pajamas and found a few that I liked, but ended up buying the one listed above in multiple colors. I figured "why shouldn't my pajamas have a hint of sexiness to them too?" If my pajamas just so happen to make both me AND my husband happy, that's a win/win. Also, Dev loves to give me grief when I shop because he thinks I shop too much but I heard ZERO complaints from him about these pajamas :)

I bought them in the black color pictured above and also this heather gray:

I thought these were adorable from Old Navy but I didn't love the matching shirt as much, so I decided not to go with them:

They are only $15 and possibly even 30% more off of that! I loved this color too:

Am I the only person who was still sleeping in old t shirts that were falling apart?? What do you wear to sleep?

Blog Link Ups

Hi There! Any of you other bloggers out there who try to link up to as many link ups as you can? Blogging is a lot more fun when people are reading your blog and interacting with it and the easiest way I have found to do that is through link ups.  These are the ones I try to link up to regularly, and I plan to keep updating this list as time goes on. Which ones do you link up to? Any good ones I'm missing? Please share below!

Italy-- Vatican Tour and Walking Around Rome

Good Morning! Thanks for following along with us as we recap the Italy trip we took in 2016. If you'd like to see the itinerary for our trip, you can click here.

Today's recap starts with our (very early!) tour of the Vatican. This tour started at 7:30 a.m., which is about an hour and a half before the museum opens to the public. It sounds rough to wake up at 6:00 a.m. on vacation in order to be showered, fed, and at your location by 7:30 but I cannot recommend this early tour enough, especially since we were there Easter weekend. Rome and the Vatican were SUPER busy that weekend, and I think trying to tour the Vatican with the massive crowds would've made it difficult to appreciate.

Getting Organized With My Day Planner

Good Morning! It is about that time to start getting organized for Back to School-- and I love me some organization!

One of the ways that I try to stay organized between working part time, blogging, play dates for Lily Grace, all of my errands, and keeping Dev's work trips straight is to write everything down in my planner.

Side note-- I desperately need a new pen case. Anyone seen any cute ones lately? I haven't stumbled across anything I loved.

Life Lately With Some End of Summer Outfits

Good Morning! Can you believe it is already August? My teacher brain is having a hard time wrapping around the fact that summer is ALMOST OVER. I'm excited but at the same time a little sad. It's bittersweet for sure. I'm not sure when you all go back to school, but our first teacher work day is in less than two weeks. I plan on spending the next two weeks soaking up as much family time and relaxation as I can. We have our annual family reunion at the beach starting on Saturday and I am so excited to see some aunts, uncles, and cousins I haven't seen in awhile.

Here's what has been going on around here lately...

Dev went to Australia for a work trip for a week, so Lily Grace and I were able to get some extra bonding time in with family. We got to spend an afternoon with LG's aunt and cousin. She spent several mornings with her grandma (who she calls "Nana") while I tried to get a head start on some stuff for the upcoming school year.

We got a little more outside playing time in.

Book Club: July

Hey There! Hope you're having a good day today and a great start to the month of August! We are in the final countdown to Back to School over here, and I am at that point in the summer where I am ready. Are any of you readers teachers? Do you start to get excited once you see the Back to School sales go up at Target/Walmart/Everywhere?

Anyway, school isn't here quiiiiiiite yet and I have been spending a good chunk of my summer reading. This month I read four books, two I loved, one I liked but didn't love, and one that was so bad I didn't even finish it (which is rare for me). I won't bother posting the bad one, no need to waste your time on something un-finishable. :)
