Not Just a Mom: A Day in The Life

Good morning friends and happy Monday! As I sit here writing this we are watching the Super Bowl and are hoping for a Bengals win. You all know I'm originally from Cincinnati right? I grew up hearing people refer to the Bengals as "The Bungles", and there were multiple seasons where they had the worst record in the NFL... so the fact that they even made it to the Super Bowl is a big deal. Also, I went to high school with the Bengals' punter Kevin Huber and he was a really nice guy, so it helps to have someone nice to cheer for! As we are all reading this Monday, we will know the outcome of the game. Let's hope it's a W for Cincinnati. 😀 Today the Not Just a Mom crew is sharing "A Day in the Life". I just recently did a regular Day in the Life post, and since I was substitute teaching multiple days last week, I thought it would be fun to share "A Day in the Life Of a Substitute Teacher". So that's my theme for the day 😉.

A day of teaching makes for an early start. I always have a clearer head and more energy throughout the day if I get a workout in, so I woke up bright and early to get a quick run in. Our gym opens at 5:00, so I rolled out of bed, threw on some clothes and got there right as it opened.

At around 5:30 I stopped running to link my blog up to the Friday Favorites link up. Anyone else get their link ready to go at 5:29 and then keep refreshing until the link up goes "live" at 5:30? After I linked up I realized I needed to get back home so I had time to shower, eat, and play with the kids for a bit before I left for school.

A little slower than usual, but whatever, all that matters is that I got a run in. I was hoping to get 2 miles and was able to get a little more. I was happy about it!

Run done, time to get home!
I got home, showered, and got ready for the day. It was the Friday before Valentine's Day so there were a lot of class parties. I wore my festive earrings and they were a big hit with the kids.
I was subbing in the library again today. The school library is so bright, cheery and warm. I love it.
I made myself a cup of coffee...
Then checked the book return station and saw there were quite a few to return. It looks like the Magic Tree House books were a big hit this week, there were a bunch of them in the return cart.
My day of subbing was a whirlwind. On Fridays we go to Mass together as a school, then I had 3 classes back to back. I hustled down to the cafeteria for 4th and 5th grade lunch duty, then back to the library for 2 more classes. The day FLEW by! At 3:00 I headed home to see my two favorite kiddos.

Devin was having a party on Friday for his best friend who is about to have a baby. Think of it as a dad's baby shower. Basically they all had a few beers/bourbon, shared dad advice, and the friend got a few dad gifts. Usually the kids and I would stay home if Devin was having friends over, but since I knew there would be a lot more people than usual and it could potentially be loud, I packed the kids up and took them to have a "slumber party" at my parents' house.
My parents were in Atlanta with my older sister and her family, so the kids and I had the place to ourselves.  We picked up Panera on the way because after a long day, I was not in the mood to cook. The kids got the broccoli mac and cheese (it's sooo good, it's their broccoli cheese soup but with pasta), and I got a salad.

Liam couldn't be bothered to stop eating. This was the best smile I could get. 😊

After we ate the kids played for a bit and then settled in for 30ish minutes of a movie.
This blurry pic was the best we could do with two wiggle worms!

Liam was quick to fall asleep (around 6:30, his usual), but LG was too excited about her sleepover. She asked if she could stay up "until midnight" and I told her she could. Luckily she doesn't know how to tell time yet because "midnight" was really 8 pm. 😂
After she was sound asleep, I poured myself a glass of wine and settled in to read my book. It took me a few chapters to get into it, but once I did I was hooked! Have any of you read this yet?? I have a few chapters left, so I can't speak to the ending, but so far I really like it.

So that was my day! Busy, but in the best way. If you wrote a "Day in the Life" post, please link up with us below. I can't wait to read what you've been up to! Oh, and HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! I hope your day is filled with love from not only your spouse/significant other, but from your friends and family as well.

  1. I'm sad the Bengals didn't win :( I'm not a big football fan but I was cheering for them and it looked good for so long. Bummer. It's fun to meet another substitute librarian! Even though I haven't worked in one yet this year (it's been too busy in the office), it's fun to work in them.

    1. Me too, what a bummer! And yes, library is a very fun place to substitute. I get to do it again this week and I'm looking forward to it!

    1. It is really convenient to have a "home away from home". We go there a couple times a week!

  4. My son was calling them the "Bagels" *shrug*. Sorry it didn't work out!
As much as I do not want to be a teacher, it does sound like fun to work at an elementary school!

    1. Hahaha the Bagels, that's cute! I love the elementary school age, I don't think I could go any higher! Middle schoolers can be tough!

  5. Oh I love this! Day in the life posts are so fun and I am always excited to see another school library. The day as a school librarian is so fun, but things move quickly! My classes are all 30 minutes. How long are they at the school where you worked? I bet the kids loved having a sleepover at your parents, even though they weren’t there. Happy Valentine’s Day!

    1. Sarah I kept thinking about you while I was subbing in the library-- I had a BLAST!! Honestly, what a FUN job. The Pre-K and TK classes are 30 minutes, but Kindergarten and up are 45 minutes each.

  6. I need to find your motivation/dedication to get up in the mornings again.

    1. It is a STRUGGLE. Honestly I don't allow myself to think about it, I literally roll out bed and head straight to the coffee maker. If I think about what workout I'm about to do/how cold it is outside/what else I have going on that day/etc I can easily talk myself out of going. Sometimes I even sleep in my sports bra and gym clothes if I think it'll help me get to the gym-- one less "thing" in the morning, ya know?
