Hello friends and happy Friday! Do you have some fun plans on the horizon for your weekend? Tonight I am grabbing a glass of wine with some girlfriends, then tomorrow we have a fun Easter event at the Y, and on Sunday we have a birthday party. It is going to be a busy one, but packed with fun! I can't believe how close we are getting to Easter/Spring Break and then before we know it, we will have a Pre-K graduation to attend. Time needs to slow down!

Packing Cubes: I originally bought enough so that we have one set for each family member, but it turns out these are really big, so 6 cubes was enough for us to share. So now we have this set for the girls in our family, and the boys are sharing the current set we already had (black ones).
Tory Burch Look-Alike Sandals: I posted about these a couple weeks ago and I have been trying to wear them as often as possible ever since!
Apple Air Tag and Air Tag Bracelet: Okay guys, I need your input on this one. I technically haven't opened the box yet because I'm unsure about whether or not we want to keep it. Here's the story behind buying this one:
A very good friend of mine recently told me that over Christmas their family had gone to a big outdoor Christmas Market. They were walking around shopping and eating some snacks when they realized their son (LG's age) was missing. Let me first say this mom is wonderful, is always very attentive to her children, her poor son just got distracted and walked off while she was probably helping her other children with something. This market is HUGE and it was very crowded. My friend had taught her son that if he ever gets lost, to find an employee (thinking she'd be at Target, the grocery store, etc.) but this market was a bunch of stalls and it was hard to differentiate who was working vs. shopping. Even when he did find someone, he was too young to have memorized his parents' phone numbers, so he just had to wait at the stall with the adult (who thank God was trustworthy). The parents found their son and he was okay, but the whole family was obviously very shaken. She told me that night while she was unable to sleep she bought her son an Air Tag and a bracelet to go with it, because they have a GPS and she would've been able to find her son more quickly/been able to see if he had been taken somewhere.
I initially was so terrified after hearing her story that I went home and bought one too. But now I'm not sure? I mean, I can't say I'm super concerned about LG getting lost, but neither was my friend when it happened to her son. Unfortunately these things happen, and it can happen to anyone.
Another option though is that LG loves to play at her friends' houses in our neighborhood and it would be nice to be able to open the app and see which house she is at. Then when its dinner time I'm not going from house to house looking for her. Is it necessary? No. Would it put my mind at ease? Possibly. Basically I'd love to know your thoughts! If we are going to return it, we need to do it before we leave for Ireland, so I need to decide soon.
Balloon Arch: We have a 5 year old birthday coming up shortly after our trip and I figured I'd go ahead and order the balloon arch now. If you haven't ever made a balloon arch before, I promise you it is MUCH easier than it looks. The amount of money I would've spent on this many balloons at Party City would've been much more than what I spent on this arch from Amazon. It only took me a couple hours to blow up and assemble the one we did for Liam's last birthday party, and I did it while I watched a movie! Easy peasy. A cheap decoration that makes a big impression.
Cars Coloring Book and Princess Sticker Puzzles: In an effort to make sure my kids absolutely do NOT run out of things to do on the plane ride/in restaurants/etc. while traveling, I have restocked some of their favorite activities.

After getting a call from the school earlier this year saying that my first grader was absent (she was not), I panicked. I was going to buy an air tag, but they only ping off of Apple devices. If I kept it in her backpack, would it ping from her teacher's phone? What if her teacher didn't have an iPhone? We did some more research and ended up getting her a Gizmo watch from Verizon. She wears it to play at friend's houses so she can call or text me, but we also keep it in her backpack during the school day. It's great for tracking where her bus is and making sure she's where she needs to be. Just another suggestion!
ReplyDeleteI would be super panicked. I actually love that you mentioned this device because I think it's a great idea. It's not a cellphone but allows you to track your kid if need be. They don't have to wear it all the time but could wear it when you go somewhere crowded or even like you mentioned while playing outside. Since it looks like a bracelet you wouldn't even have to tell them what it is (in the event they don't want to wear it knowing what it is).
ReplyDeleteI track my kids on their iphones. If they were younger and didn't have phones I could see the air tag being useful! I have also heard of people getting them for their escape artist pets' collars, and I think that's super smart too!
ReplyDeleteThat balloon arch is so neat! I wonder if my 18 year old would just roll his eyes at me if I tried to put one up for his party-- probably but I might do it anyway as I think I need to do something BIG for 18!

ReplyDeleteThat balloon arch is pretty. I've wondered how easy they are to assemble and set up. Now that I know it's not hard, I'll probably start purchasing them for events.
ReplyDeleteI love those packing cubes. I’m not sure about the AirTags. However, one thing we told our kids when they were little was to look for an employee, but if they can’t find one look for a mom with some kids. Smart to be ready for the birthday when you get back from your trip.
ReplyDeleteWe have the Airtags. They are in our kids' backpacks mostly just to make sure our older son is at school or on his way home since he walks. We also used them for skiing in case we got separated on the big hills. And we use them in our luggage to make sure our bags make it on the plane with us. If you're going to a big event with large crowds, I could see how they would be useful for that. It's just one more tool to go along with teaching your kids what to do if lost.

ReplyDeleteWe use a Verizon Gizmo watch. It only allows calling/texting to 4 people and there's GPS on it. It's so helpful for being able to reach them, but for ages that aren't quite ready for a phone yet.
