Life Lately

Well hello there! Gosh it feels like it's been forever since I've done a Life Lately post and we have been BUSY! I saw somebody share this on Instagram and thought "oh my gosh, that perfectly sums up our year so far"

Has your summer been crazy too? Here's a little look at what we've been up to lately:

Lily Grace has recently gotten into the American Girl Dolls and we are lucky enough to have a store in Charlotte. We have spent hours at the American Girl store looking at all the books, the dolls, and their accessories. We've already told the grandparents that come Christmas time, American Girl books/dolls/toys is what will most likely be on her list. My mom saved mine and my sisters' dolls from when we were growing up and LG has been playing with Kit, Felicity and Addy nonstop.

Felicity even got to come with us to the store this week! How sweet is it that the kids are encouraged to play with the dolls while they're there?

Lily Grace's favorite character so far is Molly. I mean, who doesn't love Molly?? We have all my old books from the 90's, which are significantly better than the newer abridged versions in my opinion. If you know the new books, you know what I'm talking about. Her favorite book is Molly Saves the Day:

Remember when Molly goes to Camp Gowonagin and they play Capture the Flag? It's honestly just a really fun book. I think Lily Grace really connected with this one since she just went to summer camp too. Who was your favorite American Girl growing up? I had Felicity but honestly loved them all!

We've also loved these books, and learning about life for young girls in different time periods:

I think I've been having just as much fun as Lily Grace with the books, dolls, etc. It makes me feel like a kid again! I am really looking forward to reading the books of the newer girls like Nanea, Rebecca, Melody, MaryEllen, etc.

Well when we aren't at the American Girl store or summer camp, we've been playing in the creek:

Hiking to our favorite picnic spot:

A tree fell on our spot, and the kids were so fascinated by this. It's funny what seems unimportant to us can be really exciting when you're 2 and 5. 😆

We've been to the Whitewater Center:

Where we watched the zip liners and rafters:

Paddle boarded:

And played in the river:

We loved seeing all these turtles lined up on this log:

The kids had fun counting them. A turtle would pop off the log and go swim, then another one would climb on. You know the song "There were 5 in the bed and the little one said "roll over"?" We kept singing our own little turtle version of that. 😊

We've been swimming in the pool and having a picnic lunch or dinner:

And our garden has been going crazy! We have more cucumbers than we know what to do with, and are about to be that way with tomatoes in a few more days. We've also had a lot of zucchini and okra....

And these mini butternut squashes!

I've been peeling, chopping, and freezing them for soups this fall.

We have been spending our mornings checking out different playgrounds:

Or we bike/scooter around our neighborhood:

And last but not least, one of my favorite things from this summer has been spending some good quality one on one time with Lily Grace while Liam naps. Nine times out of ten she wants to play board games together and we are really having a moment with Dog Dice:

It's kind of like Bingo but with dogs. It's super easy to play and both kids love it. We've also been playing Trouble, Candyland, Princess Candyland, Latice, and Yogarrrr. We've had a lot of fun!

Thanks for reading along today! I am linking up with Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites. Make sure you come back here Monday for the Not Just a Mom link up. We are talking about our favorite binge worthy shows.

  1. I never really got into Amerian Girl books or dolls or anything growing up. Ella went through a little stage and got a doll from Target but that's it.

  3. I do feel like that's how my year has gone by so far! LOL. Those first few months really seemed to drag by and then I blinked and suddenly the year is more than 1/2 over.

  5. OMG all the American Girl content takes me back! I had Samantha and def remember elements of her books to this day. Luckily, my closest friends had Molly and Felicity, so I had three American Girl dolls in my life! (Though, as an only child, I was also jealous of girls with sisters who had multiple American Girl dolls IN THEIR HOUSE AT ALL TIMES, like what a dream come true! :D)
