Hi there!!! How have you all been the past few weeks? I have missed you but oh man, did I make the right choice to take a little time off! Life has been wonderful around here, absolutely wonderful... but insanely busy. It feels FANTASTIC to be back at work. Teaching brings me an immense amount of joy, and I am thrilled to be back in the classroom. Don't get me wrong, I loved being a SAHM for the past two years, but I kept feeling like something was missing. This new job (working at Lily Grace's old preschool and now Liam's new preschool) gives me the opportunity to teach but also fits our family's time schedule. It couldn't have worked out better.
Anyway, let's have a look at what we've been up to!
What We're Eating This Week:
On Sunday we had:
What I'm Reminiscing About: Kindergarten! Lily Grace has started Kindergarten (more on that in a minute) and it is bringing back all the happy memories from teaching Kindergarten.
What I'm Loving:
Kindergarten is off to a GREAT start! Lily Grace has officially been a kindergartner for two full weeks and it has been an easy transition (thank God!). She adores her teachers, has made several friends, and is honestly giddy with excitement each morning as we walk out to the car. When she comes home from school each afternoon she immediately grabs her Barbies/American Girls and plays school with them. I hope this enthusiasm lasts for years and years to come! Who knows, maybe we have a future teacher on our hands? 😉
What We've Been Up To: My classroom is ready, my lessons are planned... bring on the kids!! The pictures above are still "work in progress" pictures because I forgot to snap some new ones. Hopefully within the next few days I'll have a little classroom tour post for you!
What I'm Working On: Planning all the fun lessons for this fall and then making extra copies/craft pieces/etc. for my own kids to do at home. 😊 If we are making an apple craft at school, I'm going to cut out enough pieces for two extra apple crafts at home too.
What I'm Excited About: Back to School Night. Is that weird? I am really looking forward to being on the parent side of things, not just the teacher side!
What I'm Watching/Reading: Omgosh, have you all seen the Manti Te'o series on Netflix?
I remember when all of this came out and how the press was brutal to him. At the time some people thought he was a part of the hoax, but after watching the series it seems as though that isn't quite how it happened. It is horrible. This poor guy was completely manipulated by the fake girlfriend and the extent to which she messed with his mind is crazy. Initially Devin and I were like "oh, well she was clearly going through some personal issues," but by the end of it--- heck no! She took it WAY too far. Way, way, way too far. No matter what she was dealing with in her own life, that doesn't make it okay to mess with someone else's life... especially to that extent. Have you watched this?? We were both hooked.
As for reading...
I recently finished
Local Woman Missing and it was FANTASTIC! It had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. This book will definitely be one of my top books of the year. Here is the synopsis from Amazon:
"Shelby Tebow is the first to go missing. Not long after, Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, vanish just blocks away from where Shelby was last seen, striking fear into their once-peaceful community. Are these incidents connected? After an elusive search that yields more questions than answers, the case eventually goes cold.
Now, eleven years later, Delilah shockingly returns. Everyone wants to know what happened to her, but no one is prepared for what they'll find…"
If you love thrillers, add this to your list! You won't regret it!
What I'm Listening To: The kids are really into Lily Grace's CD from VBS and it makes me so happy! They'll get in the car and say "mommy put on the Jesus songs" 😂. I am soaking that up while it lasts because one day they will be teenagers who will want to listen to pretty much anything else.
What I'm Wearing: I've been too busy to take new pictures, but I have worn some of these outfits over the past few weeks:
What I'm Doing This Weekend: It's Labor Day Weekend and we have big plans! My older sister, brother-in-law, and nephew are coming into town and we are VERY excited. My parents' town, Matthews, has a big parade and festival for Labor Day and we are looking forward to attending. This is the first year they have brought it back since COVID, meaning the last time we went was 2019!
The last time we were able to go to this festival Lily Grace was only 2 and I was 38 weeks pregnant with Liam. Time flies!!
We are all very excited for the weekend of fun!
What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month: Actually starting school and getting established in our new routine. These past few weeks have been a little nutty but I think once we have our official routine established, things should be easier.
1,000 Hours Outside Count: Oh gosh, I was pretty bad about remembering to document every day. I would forget for 2-3 days, then remember and try to guess how many hours we had been outside. We also had some pretty crummy weather (thunderstorms, extreme heat and humidity) so we only got 70 hours in this month, bringing us to a grand total os 302 hours since June. Hopefully the weather will cooperate more in September!
Today I am linking up with
Sheaffer and
Shay. See you back here later in the week (I hope!).
I have the Untold doc on my list, looks fascinating!! I am making that zucchini pasta tonight :) Glad you're happy to be back at work.
ReplyDeleteI had not heard of that story/show on Netflix but it sounds like something I will definitely have to check out! That book sounds fantastic too. Your classroom looks lovely!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great start to your teaching year! Lily Grace is so cute in her kindergarten picture. Such a fun age!
ReplyDeleteI love the back to school photo! Your classroom is so sweet! Travis and I watched the Girlfriend doc on Netflix last weekend...and I remember that too...and the doc was so crazy. I've read Local Woman as well and loved it. I've loved all of Kubica's books. I hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh! I just checked to see if you were back and saw I've missed like 4 posts. Can't wait to catch up this morning! Everything looks like it's going so well for ya'll!
