Not Just a Mom-- Day in the Life-- Weekend Edition

Good Morning friends and welcome to the March edition of Not Just a Mom!

Today we are sharing "A Day in the Life of Us-- Weekend Edition" and I am excited to see what everyone is up to on their weekends.

Today I am sharing this past Saturday in the life of us. Before I start, let me just say this "Day in the Life" was on a day when I was feeling really good. I was 11 days out from my last chemo treatment and therefore, was feeling pretty close to my regular self. I intentionally did not choose to document the weekend prior to this because it would've been very uneventful-- I laid in bed and napped all day. I only say this because I would hate for someone else who is sick to read this one day and think "what the heck is wrong with me?" because I was able to be up and doing normal things. This isn't a "typical" day, this is definitely a "good" day, and I am very happy to document the good days right now!

On Saturdays I do not set an alarm, and I naturally woke up at 5:44. I rolled out of bed and headed into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. I used to have my coffee with collagen in it, but now I add a scoop of Miralax. Oh, chemo is such a joy (said no one ever!!).

I have been trying to journal more in 2023, and especially throughout my cancer journey, so I started the day with some quick journaling...

and then I started my Bible in a Year podcast...

but only made it through about 3 minutes before this little bundle of energy came barreling into our room. 😊

Her new "cheese" face is to look very excited, and it cracks me up.

Lily Grace was having a play date with some friends later in the day and was so excited, she asked "how long until they're here?!" Hahaha, we had a long way to go!

Lily Grace read a book next to me in bed while I looked through this booklet I got from the nutritionists at the hospital...

Ya'll already knew I was a little crazy with the whole "let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food" thing, but I'm afraid to tell you I've gotten SUPER into it lately. I've gone off the deep end. If you saw me in person all I'd be talking about is what the nutritionists at the hospital told me about the importance of diet and nutrition while healing from something serious (and really, it's always important, as we know). I'll be sure to fill you in more in a future post (you're dying to know, I can already tell 😉).

Liam was still sleeping, so Lily Grace, Devin and I came out into the kitchen to get started on breakfast. LG played with her smART sketch toy for a long time while I made banana pancakes. The smART sketch was a gift from friends but let me tell you, this thing is AMAZING! It's screen-free, occupies her for hours (no exaggeration), helps her work on developing her fine motor skills, she practices tracing and art (which she loves), and is a completely independent activity. I cannot recommend this toy enough. It's a little pricey, but if you go through the company's website it's cheaper. Anyway... so I made banana pancakes..

and then at around 7:30 our big guy decided to wake up.

After we ate, Lily Grace and I headed to the store to get some supplies for her playdate. She wanted to bake cupcakes with her friends, so we grabbed everything we needed for that...

When we got back home, I started cooking some of the recipes from my little booklet. I made some Magic Mineral Broth...

and spa water for hydration.

Then Liam came in from playing outside to tell me he was ready for lunch. See Lily Grace playing with her smART sketcher in the background again? Girlfriend loves that thing!

After lunch I attempted to fold a load of laundry but then got tired and decided to save the laundry for tomorrow and rest instead. I'm getting pretty good at listening to my body when it tells me to slow down, and I have zero hesitation letting the laundry wait for another day- haha! So instead, I put my feet up and read my book.

Then, at around 3pm, LG's friends came over to play. There was one other little girl but she came later and we were too busy for any more pictures. So here's a little pic of 3/4 of them (with some creepy blurred-out faces).

The playdate was a huge hit, and a LOT of fun... but afterward I was exhausted! We ordered a pizza for dinner, put the kids down, and then I did a little yoga...

and read my book in bed. I have no shame in telling you that I was in bed by 7:45. I was always the one who was early to bed, but now that bedtime has gotten MUCH earlier!

  1. I am so glad you had a good day, Lauren! I must admit that I didn't know what was going on, so I will backtrack and read. I had looked for a recent blog post recently and couldn't find one. I totally believe in the food as medicine and I do not think you are going off the deep end. I am sending prayers out to you. You are so strong and have such a positive attitude. Hugs from Kentucky!

  2. So glad you had a good day to share with us! I'm actually quite curious to hear about healing foods and foods as medicine as I really believe that too.

  3. Glad to hear that you're having good days. Ella has the smart ART thing too. I need to find it and bring it out and let Austin try it. We are trying to find independent playing that doesn't include electronics.

  4. I am impressed with how early you naturally wake up! Though I see you go to bed early too, so it makes sense!

  5. I am so glad you were feeling good on Saturday! I know you are a go-er, but you are doing such a great job listening to your body and resting. The playdate looks like they had a blast. I can't wait to hear about the food/cookbook and it makes a lot of sense to feed your body for health. Good luck today and this week with your next round. Sending positive thoughts and prayers.

  6. I loved hearing about your good day, and thought it was so kind how you prefaced the blog post for those who might also be sick. It can be so tough when people compare their bad day with someone else's good day. Hang in there!

  8. Hi Lauren I'm so sorry that I didn't know what had been going on (I backtracked and now I'm all caught up). So glad to hear that you had a good day. I popped over to look at the ingredients of the magic mineral broth and it sounds great. I totally believe in the healing power of foods. Sending hugs and prayers xxx

  10. I'm so glad you were having a great day! I think I would use the smART sketch as much as Lily Grace does! That would have kept me entertained as a kid...and now.
