Weekend Highlights

Hello and happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend. We had another great weekend at home and were able to do something really fun together as a family.

Early last week I took the kids to Discovery Place, a kids science museum in our city's downtown. They had fun at Discovery Place, but had a surprising amount of fun on the walk from the parking deck into the museum building. There was so much for them to see and watch in the downtown area. After visiting the museum for a few hours, Lily Grace asked if we could drive around and "see more of the city". This honestly blew my mind. In my mind, I thought "umm.. there's not a lot to see? It's just buildings and cars.. but okay whatever, why not." But after driving around for a bit with them and seeing it through their eyes, the busy city is pretty cool for an almost 2 year old and a 4 year old.

We saw:

- the train (our city's version of a subway is called the Lightrail, it's an above ground train)

- people on Segways (my kids loved this, I hadn't even thought of how odd/unique/fun this would seem to them 😂)

- people on electric scooters

- MANY cranes and construction vehicles

- a tunnel

- stadiums where the Hornets, Panthers, and Knights play

- some unique statues/art

That night I got home and Devin asked how the museum was. I said "you know, they liked the museum but honestly I think they liked just walking & driving around to see the city more." And then an idea was born... we decided on Saturday morning to take the train into the city and have a "city day" together as a family.

Here we are waiting at the train station. As you can see, the train just pulled up (Liam is watching it). We hopped on board...
and rode for 5-6 stops until we got to the big children's library downtown. There was a jungle gym outside and LG climbed all the way up to the tippy top. This child has no fear!
Unfortunately I didn't grab any pictures from inside the library, but we spent about an hour there and checked out a bunch of books.

After the library the kids were hungry, so we got back not he train and headed to a restaurant that has an outside patio where you can watch the train go by.

They both read some of their new library books while waiting for another train to come by.

After we got home the kids both took some killer naps (woohoo!). At about 3:00 Liam woke up, so we walked to a nearby playground. Liam loves this playground because it has a bunch of trucks for him to play with.

He has a thing for lining them all up perfectly before playing with them. Do we have a future type-A personality on our hands here?
After Lily Grace woke up, she and Devin joined us at the playground.
We came home, fed the kids an early dinner and then realized "holy cow it's not even 6 o'clock yet but we are ready for bed". 😂
Does this ever happen to you? It was a fun day, but a busy one!
I threw on a hoodie and yoga pants and decided I was done for the day.  These were our "wait, WHAT time is it?!" faces.

Luckily the kids just played by themselves for a bit and we were able to relax and recharge.
Liam lining up his trucks again before he plays with them. Such a little goofball.

Our Sunday was easy breezy! We went to Mass, the grocery store, and then hung out at home getting prepped for the week.

How was your weekend?

Today I am linking up with Tanya for Hello Monday. Have a great day!

  2. You're the best mom. I love how you pointed how everything through the kids eyes. We see everything as everyday life and "noise" and for them it is excitement and new. That is awesome your park has trucks for them to play with.

  3. I love this! We love going into the downtown area and now that restrictions are finally beginning to lift, we are back on the subway and will be heading downtown more. Kids delight in the smallest of things.
