Not Just a Mom: Binge Watching

Hello hello friends! I hope you all had a nice weekend. We had our first weekend in forever at home, and we used it to get a million things accomplished. It feels good to be able to check a bunch of things off our to do list!

Today is the second Monday of the month which means Adrienne, Dara, Jen, JoanneSarah and I are linking up for Not Just a Mom.

Today we are chatting about binge watching tv shows, and I'll be the first to admit my post is going to be the most boring of the bunch today-- sorry! Devin and I are not big TV watchers. We are both too restless for TV (gee, I wonder where Lily Grace gets her ADHD from 😉). When we do "binge" watch a show, we watch like an episode or 2 a day so it takes us forever to get through something. That being said,  here are the shows we have enjoyed slowly bingeing over the past 10ish years:

1. Breaking Bad- Never in a million years did I think I would like this show. I am a wimp and get super freaked out by violent shows, yet somehow stuck through this one. I am so happy I did! This is hands down one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I loved not having to wait between seasons to find out what happened. I had mixed feelings about the last season though-- I both loved it and hated it.

2. Friday Night Lights- I mean what's not to love here? Tim Riggins, Tammy Taylor, Coach Taylor, Matt Saracen... the list could go on and on. I was so sad when this one ended!

3. How I Met Your Mother- This show was laugh out loud funny throughout the entire series. Loved all of the characters and the hilarious things they got into. Devin described this show as a "modern day Friends" and I couldn't agree more.

4. Mad Men- This show took you on so many ups and downs. How can you hate a character and yet pull for them so many times? Loved the costumes, the sets, and the writing.

5. Desperate Housewives- Another show that could be laugh out loud funny at times, but also deeper at times. I loved watching this one with girlfriends because each of us could always relate to one of the characters at some point. We would inevitably end up taking the "which character are you quizzes" and it would pretty much hit the nail on the head every single time.

6. Game of Thrones- I really had no interest in this show when it first came out. I am not big on fantasy, and this just didn't sound up my alley. I mean come on, dragons? I thought that sounded so dumb. Well, it turns out I freaking loved this show 😂. Oddly enough the dragon scenes were most of my favorites! It doesn't make sense that I loved it, but it was so well written that I just had to keep watching. The writers certainly knew how to end an episode on a cliffhanger! You just had to come back the following week to see what was going to happen.

7. Call the Midwife-- A show about mothers and babies set in a different time period in a different country... this show is right up my alley!! While this show is 100% my cup of tea, Devin at one point said "so let me get this straight, every single episode is just someone having a baby?" and I had to laugh out loud because he's not wrong. There is more to it than that, but that is the basic plot line. Don't let that deter you though, if it were a boring show there wouldn't be 11 seasons of it!!

8. Lost-- Oh man... I think this was our first ever binge watch right after we were married. We were both hooked!! I remember being a little disappointed by all the questions left unanswered, but also felt like the ending made sense somehow. Did you watch this one? Just like Breaking Bad, I loved and hated this ending!

What about you? What are your favorite shows to binge watch? I'm always curious to hear what other people like!

  1. I Loved Breaking Bad!! And I was so addicted to Lost but the ending was just so disappointing. I have been meaning to watch Call The Midwife from the beginning. I've caught a couple of episodes and really enjoyed it.

  2. Lost was my favorite but I didn't like the ending either. I love Call The Midwife! Loved Friday Night Lights too. I did watch Breaking Bad but never started Better Call Saul!

  3. Breaking Bad is probably my absolute favorite. I've seen it waaaay too many times. Mad Men is a good one too. I feel like that last season was kind of a crapshoot though?

  4. Mad Men was one of my favourites, top five for sure. I watched Lost when it was on TV, so week by week and not all at once. I wanted a bit more in the ending, but still loved it.

  5. Our "binge" also means 1 or 2 episodes a night as I can not sit and watch TV for hours on end... even a movie usually seems like too much of a time commitment to me! LOL. But we did enjoy Breaking Bad and Mad Med a lot.

  6. We had so many of the same shows! I laughed about your comments on Call the Midwife. Michael is not really a fan either. And we usually only binge a maximum of 2 episodes at a time. I need to check out MadMen...looks like something I'd like. Have a wonderful week!
