Not Just a Mom: Favorite Workout Places

Hello there! I hope you all had a nice weekend! Today the Not Just a Mom crew is linking up to share our favorite workout places.

I split this up into two categories: my ideal workout locations and my typical workout locations. My ideal ones are the places where I have worked out in the past and would love to workout again, but due to the location are not realistic options for me to workout regularly. Let's be honest though, they make for a much prettier picture than the track at the gym. 😆. Let's have a look:

Ideal Workout Places

As many of you probably already know, I love running, yoga, paddle boarding, kayaking and hiking. Even when we travel, I still love to try to do these things if possible. When I first sat down to write this post, I thought about my favorite places I've ever worked out, and immediately this hike popped into my mind:

One of the hikes we did on our honeymoon in Kauai. Devin and I still talk about this hike as one of our favorites we've ever done.
It was 4 miles to this beautiful waterfall, and then 4 miles back. This was our view for a good portion of the hike:
Also, can we talk about how far cell phone cameras have come in the past 10 years? I think this was on an iphone 4. We need to go back so we can take new pictures. 😉
Another favorite hike from that trip:
The Kalalau Lookout
Another of our all time favorite hikes was in Cinque Terre, Italy.

Our Air B&B was in Riomaggiore, but we hiked the trails to all 5 of the towns (over the course of a few days).

We are pretty active people, including when we are on vacation. I love to hike local trails, paddleboard or kayak in the water if possible, or run in the area early in the morning. That being said, obviously I can't go hiking in Hawaii every weekend. Here are the places where I workout much more frequently:

Typical Workout Locations

If I am being honest, 9 times out of 10 I am running on the track at our YMCA. If the weather is nice, I'll do the outside track. If it's rainy/too dark/etc., I'll do the inside track. That's quick and easy for a weekday morning. That being said, on the weekends we like to mix it up a little bit. My favorite places/things to do are:

Paddle board or kayak at the White Water Center

Go to hot yoga at my favorite studio

Go hiking on some of our local trails, like Crowder's Mountain.

Or if we are visiting my parents in Blowing Rock, then I love to run or hike some of the trails up there.

So what about you? Where are your favorite places to workout? Do you like to exercise when traveling too? If you blogged along with us today, please link up below!
We will catch you back here next month for "How We Host".

  4. We are also active vacation people. We love a hike and a run. I am reading Our Italian Summer right now and am now obsessed with Positano, Cinque Terre, Capri, etc. I would love to hike there someday!

  5. You've hiked in so many beautiful places! I wish I had more opportunities to paddle board. I've done it a time or two and enjoyed it.

  6. Paddleboarding is one of our favorite family activites. I wish we had somewhere closer to do it often! That's awesome that your Y has an indoor and an outdoor track. Your hikes look beautiful! I'm adding Cinque Terre to my travel list now!
