December Goals

Good morning friends and happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice weekend. Ours was busy and packed with Christmas fun. On Saturday morning we met Santa, and it was the easiest/most fun year yet. Lily Grace wrote a list of her and Liam's toys and read the list to Santa.

Isn't that second picture just the sweetest? I love the way Liam is looking at Santa and LG is looking at Liam. There's a lot of love in those smiling faces.

The kids are at such great ages for all the Christmas fun this year. Everything is still so magical to them and they are old enough to actively participate in more of the activities. Celebrating holidays with kids is one of the best parts of being a parent!

Anyway, it is officially December now and the start of another month means it's time to set some new goals. Before we get to new goals though, I wanted to check in on last month's goals and see how they went over.
- 2 "Day Dates"-- Unfortunately, the month of November was a lot busier than we had expected and our version of "day dates" was more like "run errands together". I'm not exactly sure you can call that a date. Maybe we will have better luck with that in January. I know December is going to be too busy!
- Exercise 3x per week-- I did do this one! It's a struggle to get out of bed some mornings now that it's cold and dark, but I never regret it once I go. But boy do I have some mornings where I hit snooze a lot more than I should!! Here's hoping I can continue that into December.
- Decluttering challenge-- I made some serious headway with this one! It's a very refreshing feeling to be able to go through a bunch of the kids' toys and clear out what they no longer play with. The fewer items we have in the house means fewer items to clean up. I also have noticed the kids are more easily able to find a toy to play with now and are more content with fewer items.
- Christmas Shopping-- I am happy to report that we are mostly finished with our Christmas shopping. I have 2 things left to buy which will be super easy!
- Christmas Cards- Our cards are ordered, sealed, and (mostly) sent out! We ran out of stamps and I need to go pick up a few more, but for the most part, I can check this one off as "done".

Now for some December Goals:

1. Keep up with Advent Prayers-- I bought the Lifeway Women Advent Bible Study book and really like it so far. It has been a very peaceful and encouraging way to start each morning. It's supposed to be a 5 day a week study, but since each day's "assignments" are a little long, I spread it out over the full 7 days. It has been such a wonderful way to start each day and I am really hoping to keep up with it throughout the month.

2. Have All Presents Wrapped Before Colorado-- We are leaving for a week-long ski trip as soon as the kids get out for Christmas break. We get home on the 21st and leave for Blowing Rock on the 23rd, so I'd really like all presents to be wrapped before we even leave for CO. I don't want that hanging over my head throughout the trip!

3. Say "No"-- I think I've reached the point where my calendar can't get any fuller without me going a little berserk. Yet, things keep pouring in. Is this happening to you too? In order to fully enjoy this time of year, I need to not be spread too thin, which means I need to turn things down. Just because we get a Sign-Up Genius for something with school doesn't mean I need to be the one to sign up. I should give it a few days and see if other people sign up first. You know what I mean?

4. Make Healthy Meals, Less Takeout-- Just like every other family, this time of year gets crazy, and we often do a lot more takeout in order to make life easier. But takeout isn't always a healthy option, and we often end up eating too much food or unhealthy food. I'm hoping we can be more disciplined about making healthier dinners at home.

What goals do you have for the month of December? It's crazy to think this year is coming to an end already. I swear each year goes by faster and faster, especially now with kids!

In other news, the kids have roughly 8 days of school left between now and Christmas break. I LOVE my job, but I love having some extra downtime with my family even more. The countdown to Christmas break is on!

Today I am linking up with Holly and Sarah for Hello Monday. Have a great week!

  1. Those are great goals. For the first time ever, I had my cards ordered before Thanksgiving...but I haven't had time to address them. I thought I was going to be ahead this year...sigh. I'm about 75% finished with shopping...honestly, my kids are currently the hardest to buy for. Great goals for Dec. I know exactly what you mean about waiting a day on the sign up genius. haha

  2. I've been trying to wrap each week and manage to stay on top of it; but then another shipment arrives and the "to wrap" pile starts stacking up again! LOL. Best of luck with your goals. My goals are mostly to exercise 3-4 days a week and keep eating ALL the healthy foods leading up to our 3 big parties.

  4. You are doing so great to be done with shopping and cards! I'm still working on the cards. I also love that second picture with Santa - so sweet. They really are such a precious age, but I can say from experience that each age has special moments! :)
