Not Just a Mom: Comfort Foods

Good morning! How was your weekend? My two best friends and I were able to get away for our annual girls trip and it was PERFECT! We stayed up way too late talking, slept in, just hung out around the house, did a little shopping, and more. I wish we were able to do this more than once a year!!

Today the Not Just a Mom crew (Adrienne, Dara, Jen, Joanne, Sarah, and I) are sharing our favorite comfort foods. The weather is finally starting to cool down around here, so the timing for this post is perfect! Here are mine:

Skyline Chili! As someone who grew up in Cincinnati, Cincinnati chili brings me all the warm and fuzzy happy feelings!! If you are from Cincy you know there are two restaurants that sell it: Skyline or Gold Star. In my opinion, Gold Star doesn’t even come close to comparing to Skyline. Luckily the grocery stores in Charlotte sell Skyline either frozen or in a can (so does Amazon!) so I can easily make it at home. I make my own pasta, add the chili on top, then add freshly grated cheddar cheese on at the end. I usually eat it with pasta, but as you can see in the picture above, cheese coneys (hot dogs) are also a big hit!

Meaty/Pasta Casserole like Beefy Mac— this is similar to Skyline, yet different. Pasta + meat + cheese is always a good combination!

Scalloped Potatoes- yum! I remember my mom making scalloped potatoes each winter and my sisters and I going nuts for them!

I’m sensing a theme here— warm and cheesy haha! What are your favorite comfort foods?

  2. I have only had skyline chili once and I wasn't a fan. As a disclaimer i think it was summer and I wanted something healthy by which they dont have. I am going to have to try it again.

  3. My comfort food is a dish called SOS that my mom made growing up (her dad taught her as it is an old Navy recipe and he was a cook in the Navy). It sounds gross but is delicious. Here is a link for a website with the recipe: https://www.thecountrycook.net/s-o-s-creamy-hamburger-gravy/
