Good Morning! If you missed part 1 of our weekend recap, click here! Today I am picking up where I left off... in Charleston!
So Good Friday morning we woke up and had breakfast in the courtyard at the Indigo Inn and then made our way out to explore the city some more. We knew there was a high chance of rain later in the day so we wanted to get out and see as much as we could before the storms set in...
We walked to the Battery again and Battery park, we walked by some beautiful old Southern homes, and we walked through the College of Charleston...
With all our walking we worked up an appetite and I was really craving a fried oyster salad. We stopped by the hotel and asked the front desk where the best fried oyster salad in Charleston was and this sweet woman came rushing out of the back to insist that we go to 82 Queen. She said it was the best fried oyster salad she has ever had in her LIFE. Well, she was pretty darn convincing so we made our way over to 82 Queen and holy cow am I SO GRATEFUL FOR THAT WOMAN!! She was 100% percent right. BEST. FRIED OYSTER SALAD. EVER. I wish I had thought to take a picture before I devoured it but instead I dove right in. Friends if you only take one thing away from this post, please let it be this: If you are in Charleston, go to 82 Queen!!
It had just started to drizzle a little so we sat inside but I was able to take a picture of their adorable courtyard. Devin and I had eaten a late dinner here years ago and were able to sit in the courtyard and it was incredibly romantic when all lit up at night.
I snagged a picture of the menu...
And then we made a run for it back to the hotel before the sky opened up. And friends it didn't just rain, it POURED. There was lightning, thunder, high wind, the whole shebang. We went to the local grocery store to buy some snacks and figured we would binge watch some Game of Thrones until it was over.
Jalapeno Palmetto Cheese and Everything Pretzel Chips for the win! We were craving some good pimento cheese and this has just the perfect amount of kick to it! They sell it at grocery stores in Charlotte so they may sell it by you too-- look for it, you won't regret it!!
I initially felt a little guilty about watching episode after episode of a TV show while in such a beautiful place, but there were tornado warnings nearby so there was no way on Earth we were headed back outside. It continued for quite awhile so we ordered take out from a place within walking distance. The food from this place wasn't so great, so I won't bother mentioning it. We ate our food, put on our pajamas, and kept on watching GoT (by the way, I HATED this show for the first 3-4 episodes but now am totally hooked-- anyone else watch it?! We are almost done with season 2 now).
We woke up the next morning and headed back to Wilmington to pick up Lily Grace. Who, in case you're wondering, was doing a whole lot of this while we were gone:
Needless to say, she was on cloud 9!
We got to Wilmington right before her nap, so we loaded her up in the car and began the trek back to Charlotte. Our ride looked an awful lot like this:
We woke up on Easter Sunday ready to celebrate! Lily Grace got a little slide for the backyard. I figure this little thing is perfect for her height, and we can also have it end in her baby pool over the summer and turn it into a water slide. It is small enough to set up in her playroom on a rainy day too... so win/win! She played and played with her slide until it was time to get dressed for Mass. Being Easter, we knew we needed to get to Mass extra early in order to get seats for the whole family. Dev, Lil and I got there just a few minutes before everyone else and Dev tried to snap a few pictures of Lil and I... but as you can see, it didn't exactly go as planned.
Lily Grace is definitely in the "can't sit still long enough for pictures" stage. We tried to get one of the three of us together but it was super blurry and didn't turn out :( There's always next year.
We came back to our house for the Easter Egg Hunt and lunch outside on our patio. The hunt was a success! We hid crackers and little toys inside Lily Grace's eggs (I'm a lame mom, I know, but I knew she was going to get plenty of sugar later and didn't want to overdo it).
Here she is with her new slide. She LOVES it so far!
Lily Grace took a nap while Devin and I were super productive and got things done around the house binge watched more Game of Thrones. She took almost a 4 hour nap after the busyness of Mass and her Easter Egg Hunt! When she woke up, we headed to my parents house for dinner and for Lily Grace to open her Easter baskets. She got one from Dev and I and then another from my parents.
We spent the next few hours having fun and relaxing together. It was the perfect way to spend a weekend! Thank you for reading along today-- I hope you all had a wonderful Easter too!!
