February Books

Hello friends! It's the end of another month meaning it is time for my monthly book review-- woohoo! I really liked all 3 of the books I read this month, but one stood out more than the others. Let's get to it!

The Woman Who Wasn't There-- This book is a shocking story about a woman who survives the World Trade Center attacks on September 11th. She forms an online survivor's group, leads tours through the 9/11 Memorial while sharing her story, and ends up being the most recognizable survivor from that awful day. The only problem, as the title gives away, is that she was never even there. This (unfortunately) true story was an appalling look at how deceptive, manipulative, and twisted some people can be. This book was infuriating to read, but also fascinating.
Lock Every Door-- I joined a Facebook Book Club called "Read Between the Wines" and this was the book of the month. I LOVED it! The main character breaks up with her boyfriend and needs a new place to live, so she accepts a job as a house sitter on the Upper East Side of NYC. There are a bunch of creepy twists to this book and I was consistently staying up too late in order to read "just one more chapter!!" I read that it's in the works to become a mini-series, similar to Big Little Lies. I can't wait to watch it!
American Royals-- After two darker books I needed to end the month on something lighter and American Royals was the perfect "fluff" book. I read online that it was the perfect combination of Crazy Rich Asians and "The Crown", I couldn't agree more! The story takes the imagines twist that after the Revolutionary War George Washington becomes King rather than President. His family becomes the American royal family. Fast forward to present day and we follow the drama that unfolds with this family and their closest friends. While not every character was likable, the juicy drama and plot kept me hooked. Have any of you read this? I'm curious what your thoughts are! I thought Nina was too naive and whiney, but loved the bad girl, Daphne. I also loved Beatrice's character and would've loved to know more about Teddy.

I FINALLY got some of the books you ladies recommended in January. Our library wait list is killer! I am looking forward to reading your recommendations, please leave me a comment if you have any more to recommend!!

Today I am linking up with Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites. Have a great weekend!!

  2. I did read American Royals and enjoyed it; I'm pretty sure I felt the same way about many of the characters as you did but I still can't wait to see where the next book in the series takes us. I am just stunned over the description of the first book!! Wow! Some people..

  4. Those first two books sound really interesting. Will have to add them to my TBR list. This is the first I've heard of the "survivor" from 9/11. It's crazy how people will use tragic circumstances to benefit their own evil agenda.
