Friday Favorites-- August Goals

Good morning friends and happy Friday! Today we are headed to visit Devin's family in Wilmington for the weekend which may be our last beach trip of the summer- bummer! It is crazy to think that school will be starting back up for me in two and a half weeks. What?! This summer flew by! In the meantime we will be over here trying to soak up every last little bit of summer with our girl since it'll be our last summer with just her.

I'm sure I've mentioned this a time or two over the past few weeks, but I have gone into crazy nesting mode and am trying to get all my ducks in a row before this baby comes. I remember very well those newborn baby days where you are overwhelmingly exhausted and busy caring for a newborn. I would like to have as much prepared in advance as possible! That being said, I have already knocked out all of my monthly goals for July and am now looking forward to August to see what else we can get accomplished.

Here is a quick glance at July:

1. Get the nursery prepped- Ladies, we are officially as prepped as we can be for now. The only thing we haven't moved into the nursery yet is the crib because Lily Grace is still sleeping in it. Our pediatrician told us to keep her in there as long as possible but to try to make the transition before the baby comes so she doesn't feel like the baby is "taking" her bed. We will transition to the toddler bed next month and get the crib into the nursery.
2. Read 3 books- Done! I read one novel this month and two nonfiction books and it was nice to mix it up a bit. I will be posting about the books I read in the next week or two.
3. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning- I have been doing this and am noticing a huge difference in the amount of water I am drinking in a day. It definitely helps that I bought this water infuser pitcher and have fun figuring out what to put in it each day.
On this day I put frozen cubed watermelon and sliced cucumber in it. Delicious and refreshing combination! I pop some more ice in it throughout the day and leave it on the counter, so every time I go into the kitchen I see it, refill my glass and drink more water.
4. Begin on maternity sub plans- I have them started, but unfortunately kind of need to be at school to make more progress on them. My plan is to go in and fill in more details early next week.

Now for August:
1. Transition to toddler bed-- this is one of those things that I'm dreading, but am hoping it won't be quite as bad as I'm thinking. I have several friends who have already made this transition with their kiddos who are similar ages to Lil, and the transition wasn't so bad. Here's hoping!
2. Read 4 books-- this sounds a little ambitious but I have a few audiobooks already downloaded and I can fly through an audiobook. Especially when they aren't that long to begin with, I can get a few hours in each day while I am walking/folding laundry/making dinner.
3. Keep up with walking-- towards the very end of my last pregnancy I was walking 4 miles a day and it made a noticeable difference in how I felt both physically and emotionally. I know exercise is one of the best things to help combat those crazy pregnancy hormones, so my goal is to keep up with my walking. Ideally I'd like to keep up with my light weight training until the end too, but I will see how I feel and play that by ear.
4. Stay organized through the back to school craziness-- I am going into my 11th year of teaching (whoa!) and have noticed that the more organized I am and stay on top of my to-do lists and calendar, the more smoothly the beginning of the year goes. I am hoping that I will be able to do that this year too since I will also be training a long term sub!

What about you? Are you getting all geared up for the end of summer and back to school season? What do you have planned for the month?

  1. Daily walking was the best thing that I did during my pregnancies and still do it to this day! You are soaking up the sweetest weekend.
