Today however I wanted to share a fun couple "date from home" nights we've had lately: Taste Testing Viral Recipes. I stumbled across a few delicious sounding recipes on Instagram and TikTok and told Dev we should give them a shot. We decided to make a date night out of it and make multiple recipes for one meal. Not only was it a fun activity to research viral recipes we thought sounded good, but then to actually make them together and rate them on a scale. This was so fun we ended up doing a round 2 and round 3 making different recipes on other nights. Here are the recipes we tasted:
Baked Feta Pasta-- I initially saw this one on Instagram but it led me to the TikTok recipe. I wasn't sure what to expect here but figured it was worth a shot.
Picture from the Rachael Ray Show. Apparently the tried to make it too!
Our rating:
Lauren: 10/10
Devin: 10/10
Our thoughts: WOW! We both said this one was incredible and we couldn't wait to make it again. Super easy too and healthy. What's not to love? We definitely recommend this one. The link to the recipe is found here.
Nature's Cereal-- I saw this one on TikTok and at first my thoughts were "that looks good, but kinda weird with the coconut water". We decided to make this as our dessert one of the nights we tested recipes.
Our rating:
Lauren: 9/10
Devin: 6/10
Our thoughts: I really liked this one! The only reason I didn't give it a 10/10 is because the ice melted and watered down the coconut water. There was no reason to have ice in there in my opinion. I thought the pomegranates gave it the perfect crunchy texture and the coconut water made it sweet enough to feel like dessert. Devin on the other hand said "I'd rather just throw it in the blender and eat it as a smoothie". So... different strokes for different folks I guess. The recipe link is here.
Gigi Hadid's Spicy Vodka Pasta-- We had both read about this one on a variety of social media and news sites. This was easily the most "hyped" recipe we tried, with headlines like this:
We thought for sure this one would be a winner. Unfortunately, it really wasn't.
Our rating:
Lauren: 6/10
Devin: 5/10
Our thoughts: By no means was it bad, but for a pasta that was described as something that would knock our socks off... this wasn't doing it for us. I even added extra red pepper flakes but it was still too bland. The base of the sauce wasn't flavorful enough. We both said we would not make it again. If you want to try it for yourself, the recipe is here.
Crispy Smashed Brussel Sprouts-- This one came from Tik Tok and I knew we definitely needed to make this one for our taste test night. Luckily we already had everything on hand!
Our rating:
Lauren: 10/10
Devin: 10/10
Our thoughts: We have already made this recipe multiple times! It's THAT good. I like that you can make this spicier/less spicy by adding more/less red pepper flakes. We used fewer red pepper flakes on the ones we made the kids and they ate them right up! The recipe is here.
Tortilla Wrap Hack-- This one looked promising. You'd be pretty hard pressed to find a Mexican/TexMex recipe I won't love.
Our Rating:
Lauren: 10/10
Devin: 10/10
Our thoughts: We both said this was the overall winner from all the viral recipes we tried (yay!!!). We love how versatile it is! We actually didn't make the recipe exactly as it was on Tik Tok or in any articles, we just followed the basic concept and used what we had on hand. We loved that this could be made into a breakfast wrap, a lunch wrap, even a dessert wrap! We said you could use a crepe instead and use nutella and fruit, but follow the same steps. I honestly hope you try all of these recipes, but if you could only pick one-- pick this one!! The recipe idea is here.
We had a blast doing this and are thinking about doing it again in the next few weeks. Any other viral recipes you think we should try? We are open to just about anything as long as it doesn't include shellfish (Devin is super allergic). Leave me a comment below and tell me if you've tried any good viral recipes!
Today I am linking up with Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites. Have a great weekend!
What a great idea to run a taste testing with the family on all these viral recipes (there are so many of them at the moment) I love this idea, its a great way to get the kids to try new things. #FridayFavourites
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I love the idea to try all of these!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of doing this as a date night. We have tried a few of them and enjoyed them too. I can't get behind the "cereal"
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I am not much of a cook but that crispy smashed Brussels sprouts sound amazing!

This is such a fun date night idea! I'm not on TikTok, but I have seen the Baked Feta Pasta recipe floating around on Facebook as well. I'll have to try it one of these nights!
