My Luau-at-Home Birthday

Good morning friends! I hope you've all been having a nice week so far. Lily Grace has been at Frozen 2 themed dance camp and it has been such a blessing for the whole family. Great for her to get out of the house and play with kids her age, great for Liam because he gets one-on-one time with his mama, and great for me because I can get other things done during the day now that I'm not watching two kiddos nonstop!

Last week we celebrated my 33rd birthday with a fun Luau-at-Home theme and I wanted to share it because I think Devin knocked it out of the park! You may be wondering "why a Luau-at-Home theme?" Well, for the past few years (yes, YEARS) I have been on a kick of wanting to go back to Hawaii. Devin and I have been fortunate enough to travel to many places around the world, but Hawaii has been and always will be one of my favorites. Devin keeps saying "the flight is too long" or "the kids won't get enough out of it yet" and you'd better believe I am trying to counter every single one of his arguments!
This pic is from one of our hikes on Kauai in 2013. Can you see why I want to go back?
Since we unfortunately aren't going to Hawaii anytime soon, Devin decided to try to help me "get it out of my system" by having a Luau-at-Home party for my birthday. I think he did a wonderful job putting it all together (especially since things like this are NOT his area of expertise!) and wanted to share with you all in case anyone else wants to do a special Luau themed party at home! I was trying my best to be present in the moment and not on my phone all day, so I don't have nearly as many pictures as I would like. Hopefully you will still be able to get the idea.
I actually woke up early before the kids got up so I could get my run in, and tiptoed out the door while the house was still dark.. not knowing that Dev had decorated the entire main floor of our house in Luau themed decorations! When I came back from my run, there were two hula dancers waiting for me...
with my Kauai Coffee and tropical fruit breakfast!
Mango, kiwi and pineapple over vanilla yogurt with some coconut clusters on top-- yum!

Here's my little surfer dude enjoying his own fruit for breakfast:
Dev had this Palm Tree Sprinkler set up for the kids in the backyard. We all had a blast running through it, adults included. Nothing like a 90+ degree day to make you appreciate your kids' water toys.  ðŸ˜€ I don't have any pictures, but this is the picture on Amazon:
Lots of fun!

For lunch Devin made poke with rice and sashimi for an appetizer, and Hawaiian pork steam buns for our "main course". The kids loved the pork and steam buns while I mostly ate the poke, I LOVE poke!
Dev, Lil and I also got Piña Coladas for a drink. Lily Grace loved hers and said it tasted like ice cream, which is pretty spot on!
He dressed for the part, and the kids and I loved it! 😀

While the kids napped we played Latice Hawaii (one of our new favorite games!). I don't have a picture from my birthday, but we played it over the weekend and I snagged a pic then:
This game is super easy to learn and a lot of fun.

Once the kids woke up we ran around in the sprinkler a little more, then had grilled fish with a mango salsa for dinner.

It was a perfect way to spend my birthday, except I most definitely did not "get it out of my system". Now I want to go even more than I did before! His plan certainly backfired. 😉

I hope you all have a great day! See you back here tomorrow for a recipe post.
