Let's Look: Your Holiday Menu

Good morning everyone! Hope you're having a great start to the day today. Today we are looking at everyone's holiday menu, and if I'm being honest.. we are pretty basic around here. We have your typical turkey/mashed potatoes/stuffing/rolls like everyone else, but then a few other goodies mixed in!

Before we start though, I have to let you in on a little family battle we have every year...

Turkey vs. Ham.

Are you a turkey family or a ham family?

Every single year the turkey family members (ahem, my sisters and Devin, ahem). and the ham family members (everyone else) get into a little competition about which is better, and we do our best to try to out-do each other with making ours taste better. We vote at the Thanksgiving dinner and then we also take votes for the post-Thanksgiving lunch (because that's a whole other fantastic meal... you all know it!). Just like with politics in our country, the turkey people always vote turkey and the ham people always vote ham 😂. I don't know why we even bother, except that it's fun. I am 100% team Ham. Love it. Which are you?

Anyway, here are a couple things we do like to do that may be new/different to you:

- We almost always add a small container of Garlic & Herb Alouette or Boursin cheese to our mashed potatoes. If you haven't done this before, I highly recommend it! It makes them so nice and creamy and it gives them just the perfect amount of flavor.

- It's not Thanksgiving if you don't have King's Hawaiian Rolls. We buy some for Thanksgiving Day of course, but these make for the BEST sandwiches on day 2. I mean, wow.

- The Cranberry Chèvre and Blueberry Vanilla Chèvre goat cheese logs from Trader Joe's are ALWAYS on our appetizer board (basically a mix of nuts, cheese, crackers, fruits, etc.)

- This year for one of our sides we are going to have my Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Proscuitto.

Okay well if I'm being honest I had already gone straight to Christmas and kinda forgotten about Thanksgiving, but this post has me feeling all sorts of excited about it now! I'm wondering if we need to practice make a couple of these recipes this week, you know, to check that the recipes are still good 😉

Can't wait to see what you all have to say in your posts!

Have a good one friends.

  2. I don't know of anyone up here that serves ham on Thanksgiving; though my boys would happily eat either. I did buy a ham since they went on sale and we'll cook it up this weekend. I'm already thinking of recipes I want to make with the leftovers. I like to glaze my ham with a mustard/brown sugar glaze.

  3. We're not super fans of turkey and I'm not a super fan of ham. Last year I made a roast chicken and I may do that again this year. It's all about the sides anyway! I love your suggestion of adding the soft cheese to mashed potatoes! What a great idea and I'm definitely doing that this year! I'll make the usual, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, and mac and cheese. This year I'm going to try a brussel sprout with bacon bread crumb topping recipe I saw online recently. And Hawaiian Rolls are a must! I think I'm going to go and get some this weekend and freeze them just so I can be sure we have some!
