October Book Review

Good morning friends and happy Wednesday! Today I am sharing my monthly book review-- I would recommend 3 out of the 4! Let's get to it, shall we?

The CHAOS Cure-- I saw this one on Shay's blog a month or so ago and thought it looked interesting-- I LOVED it! I love a book that makes house cleaning/home making feel more easily manageable. Let's be honest, in this phase of life we are in (2 young kids at home and a messy husband who is working from home), keeping this house clean feels like a full time job. But by looking at it in small chunks, it feels much more manageable. I love the "how much can I get done in 10 minutes?" approach and often find it surprising just how much you can accomplish in 10 minutes. I definitely recommend this one! I give it a solid A.

Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?--  One of my best friends' brothers read this book years ago and posted about it on social media as one of the most eye opening books he had ever read. I put it on my list back then, but had never gotten round to reading it. I made it a priority this summer to read a few books that would help me understand racism more in an effort to become more actively anti-racist. This book is written by a black author and I think she did a wonderful job of opening my eyes to things I, as a white woman, had never thought about before. If you are trying to read more books to better understand racism in our country, I suggest adding this one to your list. Solid A.

Majesty-- This was the sequel to American Royals and I have to say, I was really hoping for more here. I remember reading American Royals and thinking to myself "these characters are all kind of boring, the only interesting one is Daphne". Well, that is exactly how I would describe this book too. Everyone is boring, and the only character who somewhat kept my interest was Daphne. Have any of you read this? Or American Royals? I'd love to know your thoughts. I say C-.

The Silent Patient-- Whoa! At the end of the month I asked for some recommendations for a thriller/suspense book and this one was recommended. I'm so happy I went with this one! This book was hands down my favorite of the month, and possibly one of my favorites for the year. I was listening to it on Audible (which I LOVE by the way!) and kept saying out loud "whoa!" or "OMG!" while Devin was trying to work from home 😂. Needless to say, Devin basically felt like he read this along with me because I kept providing commentary. I loved this book, and would highly recommend if you love the suspense/thriller genre. I definitely give it an A+!

So now I have moved on to Holiday season mode and am looking for any good Christmas-y/Holiday themed books. Any recommendations??

I hope you have a great day! See you back here tomorrow!

  1. I've slacked off with reading the last few months and my goal is to make it to the library this week to check a few books out. Thanks for sharing your reviews! I'm adding Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria and The Silent Patient to my library list!

  4. I'm so disappointed that many people are saying the same thing about Majesty. I have been waiting for the book to come in through our library.
