Homemade Ornament Ideas

Hey there! Over the weekend we made our annual homemade ornaments and I wanted to share them with you today. These were super easy to make-- it took longer to gather the supplies than it did to make the ornaments!

Here's What You'll Need:
- several of your favorite family photos from the past year
- popsicle sticks
- craft foam
- pom pom balls (we did red and green but you can do any color-- whatever goes with your tree!)
- twine/ribbon
- mini bows
- pipe cleaners
- Elmer's glue
- hot glue gun and glue sticks

Pom Pom Ornament
First up, the giant pom pom ornament! For this I grabbed two different sized bowls and traced them onto the craft foam so I had two different sized circles. I took the smaller circle and traced around a picture, then cut it out. I glued the photo into the center of the larger foam circle using the hot glue gun, then used Elmer's glue to spread a layer of glue around the edge. Lily Grace put the pom poms onto the wet glue like this:
Once all the glue had dried and I re-glued any pom poms that were loose, we added a pipe cleaner to the back. I just made a quick loop, and glued it to the back with the hot glue gun.

We made a couple extra of these to give out to the grandparents as Christmas gifts. Easy, inexpensive, and fun for the kids-- the perfect kind of gift!

Popsicle Frame Craft

For this one, I made the popsicle frame in advance with the hot glue gun, then traced and cut the picture to size. I cut foam to add as a backing to the picture and glued the picture to the foam. I wrapped the twine around the frame before gluing it to the picture. Then, Lily Grace decorated with the bow and pom poms. I added another pipe cleaner loop to the back in order to hang the ornament from the tree.

Felt Frame Ornaments

Now these ones we found at Michael's pre-made, you just add your kids picture to it. I thought they were super cute and easy-- it took seconds! Just take out the circular picture already inside the frame, trace it onto a photo of your own kid, cut and insert. Easy peasey and so dang cute.

Lily Grace keeps taking them off the tree to play with. She tells me Liam the Elf and Lily Grace the Nutcracker are going on adventures. Yesterday I found them in the pantry "having a snack" though so I need to keep my eyes peeled that they don't end up somewhere bad-- like the laundry!

There are a bunch of fun options on Pinterest-- hop on over there and find yourself some inspiration! See you back here tomorrow for a healthy recipe.

  2. I loved seeing this on instagram so much this weekend! We made ours last night - we did them very similarly, except we didn't make them ornaments - just frames! We added sparkly glue to ours and festive washi tape! Thanks so much for the idea! Our grandparents will LOVE this!
