Our Trip to Siesta Key, FL Part 1

Good morning friends! Today is all about our trip to Siesta Key for Spring Break! We had a wonderful time playing with the kiddos on the beach and also a good amount of one-on-one time for just Dev and I. It was honestly the perfect trip and I am so excited to share it with you! I had originally planned to turn this into one post but realized I had wayyyyy too many pictures for that. Two posts it is!

Before we begin, let me tell you that back in 1985 my parents bought a timeshare on the beach in Siesta Key for a steal. Their thought was "well we hope this works out, but if it doesn't at least we didn't put too much money into it". I think they would be the first to tell you that it was one of the best decisions they ever made. My family has visited this beach for our two timeshare weeks every year since 1985 and it has become our home away from home. I have some of the best memories from here growing up and it makes my heart melt to think that my own kids can have those same experiences. Here's a look at our trip:

First, the flight there! Honestly I think the flight was one of the highlights for the kids 😂 It's funny how something adults or even older children take for granted, young kids love. Lily Grace and I dropped Dev and Liam off so they could get our bags checked in and we could park the car.

Lily Grace was fascinated by the whole concept of parking your car in a lot, getting a ticket, getting on the shuttle bus (BIG hit 😂😂), and getting into the airport. Both kids loved riding the moving sidewalks inside the airport and were having a blast. Who knew the airport would be so much fun??

Once we got on the plane the kids played with their toys we packed. We gave them their Easter baskets early since we weren't going to be home for Easter. How convenient of the Easter Bunny to drop by the morning of our flight 😉

Liam played for about 20 minutes, then watched about 10 minutes of Super Simple Songs, and then slept the rest of the flight, thank the Lord!! We were nervous about him because he's in that super busy phase where he is constantly moving.

Meanwhile Lily Grace just did her Sofia the First sticker puzzles, scratch art and coloring books the whole time.

Pop Pop (my dad) picked us up at the airport and we headed to Siesta Key! That night my parents insisted that they would put the kids to bed and Devin and I should go grab a bite to eat somewhere in peace. After a long day of travel with the kids, we did not turn them down! Now according to the news we had read we were expecting the mask laws in Florida to be a bit different from home... but honestly they really weren't. Masks were required in all stores, restaurants had spread their tables to be far apart and many had turned their entire parking lots into outside seating. Masks were not required once seated at a restaurant but we were asked to wear them before we got to the table, which we were obviously okay with. I don't have any pictures from our first night-- oops!

The following morning we woke up and headed straight to the beach! I saw online to get a Dollar Tree shower curtain liner and dig a pit in the sand. Then use that shower curtain liner to turn it into a little pool. I figured if it didn't work, it only cost $1 but it was worth a try. This was a big hit!! The kids loved that they could play in the water and it wouldn't disappear.

I think Liam spent about 90% of his vacation in this little mini pool. We had a great view of the beach and there was hardly anyone there this day!

Here's a little more of our day:

That night we ordered some takeout and ate on our porch while we watched the sunset. The sunset view from our unit is always one of my favorites:

The following few days looked a lot like this:

Making sand angels instead of snow angels😂

Chasing seagulls and squawking at them

And eating a lot of beach snacks. Also please note that Liam is a habitual cup stealer. He thinks all cups belong to him and will try to drink out of them.. even our coffee cups in the morning!

We had one day where the weather was a little too chilly for the beach so we headed to play mini golf. We got there right when it opened and were the only people there.

Lily Grace LOVES mini golf and thinks she is really good at it (she's most definitely not 😂). She kept saying "whoa mommy look how good I am". If only we could all be as confident as an almost 4 year old, right?

Our family golf star kept insisted on getting her picture with this gator statue.

Liam just had a blast running around the golf course and trying to pick up everyone's balls haha. Luckily none of us really cared about the score and were just there for some fun. Liam was enjoying his snacks.

At the end of the mini golf course they had a gator pit with some interesting facts about gators and the kids could feed them with a fishing pole.

By the time we got back to the beach the weather had warmed up and was perfect for the beach. We played all afternoon, made some food to eat on the porch, and then Devin and I headed down to watch the sunset while my parents stayed in the unit with the sleeping kiddos.

My parents were there for the full two weeks whereas we were only there for a little over 1. They kept insisting we take as much time to ourselves as we wanted since they had a whole extra week to go out to eat/come down for the sunset. I am so grateful for them, for a million reasons, and it was nice to be able to get some one-on-one time with Dev.

That's it for today! I'll share the rest of our trip next week. Have a great Wednesday!

  6. That sound wonderful!! I think it must vary depending on where in Florida you live though; where my dad is he said hardly anyone wears masks or social distances when going to places like Walmart and all the restaurants are back open to full capacity and the last time they headed out every single seat at the bar and all the booths were chuck full.

  8. I am glad you enjoyed Florida. I live between Tampa and Orlando. Masks are required everywhere around here. That is why I can never understand why people say Floridians do not where masks. I guess there may be a few places but I've never seen it.
