Monthly Goals: September 2018

Good Morning and Happy Friday! This week was our first full week of school and I am ready for the weekend!!

A teacher's face when... she is end-of-the-first-week-teacher tired. More

So true!

Anyway, I wanted to share something with you that I have been doing for the past few years that helps me to stay organized/on top of things throughout the year: my monthly goals.

Several years back around the holidays I started reflecting on my New Year's Resolutions for that year and how successful I had been. Just like most people, I either stopped trying after a few months or never even got started at all. I figured I needed to find a way to make myself accountable for actually achieving these goals I was setting for myself.

Each year I typically set:
- a financial goal
- a health/fitness goal
- a mental stimulation/learning goal
- an overall wellness goal
and then maybe one other random one.

I decided to write down my list of resolutions and keep it both in my planner AND a list on the notepad app on my phone.  This is the planner I purchased for this year and I LOVE this brand for planners. If you click the link and then click on "Me and My Big Ideas" they have SO MANY planner add ons to help personalize it for each person-- and you've got to read the reviews, I am not the only one who swears by this brand!

They also have a planner that is geared specifically towards helping you meet your health and fitness goals. I haven't purchased this one, but the reviews online for it are great! Also, it's only $14, which is basically the cost of a lunch out. So if you're thinking about making a change for a healthier lifestyle, I'd go for it and get this!

Anyway, I make my list in my planner AND on my phone and then each month I will make mini-goals that help me towards reaching those year long goals. I also find it is good to be flexible with these goals, and I may need to tweak/change them throughout the year/month.

This years New Years Resolutions (or yearlong goals) were:

-Put x amount of money in our savings account
- Try multiple different types of exercise-- maybe I would LOVE pilates or kickboxing, but I won't ever know until I try them
- Read 34 books (I read 33 last year and wanted to see if I could do more)
- Try to work AHEAD on things rather than procrastinate the things and I don't like and then always playing catch up
- Visit another country

So this January (and every month since then) I decided to set a few mini goals towards reaching the long term goals. These are my goals for the month of September. Goals are on the left, the "Currently" section for the month is on the right. The "Currently" section is another one of the reasons I love this planner-- it's fun to look back at past months to see what I was celebrating or dreaming about or planning.

I use this little notepad to write them on. It has pre-punched holes so it can fit right into my planner, but I like it on the other side of the planner so I use a little washi tape to keep it in place-- and make it look cuter :)

In case you can't read my handwriting, they are:
- Put x amount of money into our savings account (I blurred out the amount before posting-- I figured that was something that wasn't anyone's business but ours ☺️)
- Start BAM Program on the Sweat App (LOVE that app by the way!)
- Read 4 books (I count listening to audiobooks-- otherwise I would never be able to get this many books in!)
- Have my lessons planned for the entire month by September 5th (I can always tweak them if I need to)

Doing these goals every month has made it MUCH easier to stay on track throughout the year and I feel like I am able to actually achieve more of my NY Resolutions. I'm also hoping that if I share them online you all can help keep me a little more accountable ;)

Do any of you set monthly goals for yourself??

Thanks for stopping by--- I hop you have a great day!

  2. I really need to get on being that far planned out on my lessons for the school year. I've gotten into a bad habit of figuring out a day or 2 at a time. Good luck with your goals!

    1. I was that way last year and it stressed me out! Here's hoping I plan ahead all year and not just the month of September!
