Books I Read in August

Good morning friends and happy Friday! Today I am sharing the books I read in the month of August-- and believe it or not I was able to squeeze in 4! Every single one of these was an audiobook this month and I think that's the only way I was able to get through so many. I listen while I put on my makeup for the day, while I do laundry, while I clean the kitchen after dinner, while I am out for my walks/runs, etc. Anytime I have a spare minute, I'm listening! Do any of you listen to audiobooks?? I love a good thriller while out for a run-- I swear I run faster!

Anyway, every single one of these books was hit! If you're looking for something good to add to your list, maybe some of these will fit the bill.

Here are my thoughts:

An Anonymous Girl-- This book was really unique and I loved the concept of the plot. Jessica is a makeup artist in NYC who is struggling financially when she comes across an opportunity to participate in a study at a local college. A professor at the university is doing a study on morality and will pay her for her time answering questions. Everything seems normal at first but the further she progresses into the study, the more the things the professor is asking make Jessica feel uncomfortable. This book makes you think "if you were desperate for money, just how far would you go to make some?" I give this book an A+!

SuperLife-- I LOVED this book! If you've been watching the documentary on Netflix called "Down to Earth" with Zac Efron, then you know his cohost Darin Olien. Darin is a "superfood hunter" and is the author of this book. This book talks a lot about the importance of health and nutrition, which you know are things I am passionate about! While I can't necessarily get on board with everything Darin was talking about in his book, I did take away a lot of helpful information from it. If nothing else, it definitely motivated me to eat healthier and be more conscious of what I'm putting into my body and where it came from. Another A+.

The Other Mrs.-- Oh my goodness, this one was FASCINATING! One of those stay-up-too-late-at-night-and-wake-up-early-again-to-read kinda books. This author, Mary Kubica, is one of my very favorite authors. She reminds me a lot of Gillian Flynn, except less disturbing. Mary Kubica writes the psychological thriller genre very well and every time you feel like you're in the room with the characters in the book. Another A+.

Polish Your Poise-- Now this one is not my favorite of Jennifer L. Scott's books, but I still very much liked it. I have read this one before and thought the same thing, but though I'd give it another read. While I like it, my favorite of hers is still At Home With Madame Chic. This book, similar to SuperLife, I do not take every single piece of advice this author recommends, but I pick and choose the things that work for me. For example, the author talks about the importance of wearing regular clothing and not just yoga pants every day. While I agree with that most of the time, I also very much appreciate an entire day spent in yoga pants once in awhile. This book is about simple things you can do in your life to become more confident and give off an air of confidence (without coming across as snobby).

What about you? Have you read anything good lately? What's your favorite genre to read?

Today I am linking up with Andrea and Erika for Friday Favorites. Have a great weekend!!

  1. My favorite genre seems to change depending on my mood. Though I do like historical fiction novels.
