Book Club: July

Hey There! Hope you're having a good day today and a great start to the month of August! We are in the final countdown to Back to School over here, and I am at that point in the summer where I am ready. Are any of you readers teachers? Do you start to get excited once you see the Back to School sales go up at Target/Walmart/Everywhere?

Anyway, school isn't here quiiiiiiite yet and I have been spending a good chunk of my summer reading. This month I read four books, two I loved, one I liked but didn't love, and one that was so bad I didn't even finish it (which is rare for me). I won't bother posting the bad one, no need to waste your time on something un-finishable. :)

1. The first book I read this month that I LIKED was Truly, Madly, Guilty by Liane Moriarty. I feel like I'm probably the last Liane Moriarty fan to get around to reading this but I had heard it wasn't her best one (thanks for the heads up Kelly!), so I wasn't in a rush. My girlfriend Kelly was right, this was good but not the best Liane Moriarty by far. Any other Moriarty fans out there? Which ones are your favorites? I loved The Husband's Secret and Big Little Lies, but my absolute favorite was What Alice Forgot. I had heard they were making it into a movie with Jennifer Aniston, but then I guess that never came to fruition? What Alice Forgot reminds me of another book I love: Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella. These two stories have similar plot lines, and are both quick reads.

2. The next book I read was one I love, love, LOVED!! The Secret Life of Violet Grant has some of my favorite elements of a book: fictional love story, different time period, strong female lead characters, and a crazy plot twist. I mean it would be hard NOT to like this book. That being said, there are definitely some steamy love scenes and graphic language, so be warned!

3. The third book I read this month was another hit: The Women in the Castle. This is a book about WW2, but a different side of WW2 than what I have read before: the German perspective. This book follows 3 women living in Germany during the war who disagree with what their country is doing. It is interesting to read about the effect the war has on these women who know their country is wrong. Very heartbreaking in parts, of course.
