Book Review: March

Hi there! I was originally thinking I would have a lot more time on my hands to read some books this month, but I was WRONG! Anyone else? I still made it through 3 books, but I can't say I read one of them cover to cover.. it was more of a "pick and choose". Let's get to it!

There's No Such Thing As Bad Weather-- I read this book at the beginning of the month and LOVED it! I loved that it encourages us to get our kids outside everyday, even if just for 15 minutes, no matter what the weather is. I know I notice an improvement in myself when I get outside, and I notice it in my kids too! The author, Linda Akeson McGurk, has a blog called Rain or Shine Mama which I love too!
How To Talk So Little Kids Will Listen-- Earlier this month I wrote a post about my favorite parenting books and a friend texted me to add this one to my reading list. She said it was great for the helping through the toddler years and so far I agree! A lot of the information in this book would not be new to educators, especially early childhood educators, because we've all been taught these strategies to use with our students. It was definitely good information though and a nice reminder to speak to my own child in the same way I would speak to my students at school. Always with patience, a soft and calm tone of voice, and trying to explain situations in a way that the kids understand. All easier said than done, right? 😜 Especially when being quarantined together!!
The American Agent-- One of you recommended this to me several months ago and it finally became available at the library. I LOVED it! I didn't realize Maisie Dobbs was a whole series of books and will definitely be adding a few more to my list! While I don't think you need to read any of the other books to be able to enjoy this one, I definitely found that I enjoyed it more once I had a little background information on the main characters. Have any of you read books in the Maisie Dobbs series??

I love it so much when you all leave me recommendations of books to add to my list! If you have any others you'd recommend, please leave me a comment below. And be sure to come back tomorrow for a delicious salad recipe. We've been making it nonstop around here this week to try to combat all the other junk we've been eating 😉. See you tomorrow!

  2. I read two this month! With 5 kids, that's a lot for me. My favorite was Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.

  3. You might also want to read Fifteen Minutes Outside; 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids. It gave us some really great ideas for enjoying ALL the seasons and I loved that those 15 minutes almost always turned into more... unless it was really pouring or blizzard-like conditions.
